Barley Mung Bean

Grandma's recipe - I am accustomed to baby barley (more starchy), but now I enjoy the texture of pearl barley as well!

All ingredients

Soak washed 0.5 cup barley & 1 cup mung bean in water for 8 hours or overnight

Discard soaking water, put soaked barley & mung bean in the pot with 8 cups of water to boil.

Once boil, turn down the heat and cover it to boil for 20 minutes

Add 1 cup of sugar, then boil for another 5~10 minutes till desired softness.

Ready to serve

No presoaking: boil barley, mung bean and water for 5 minutes. Turn off heat & cover it for 30 minutes. Add sugar and then boil for 10 minutes. Done.

-Without presoaking, mung bean shall broke more easily,
-Could cut water down to 4 cups and/or sugar to 0.5 cup, if prefer.
